An Odd Blend That May Blow Minds... and Profits.
There's no end to the possibilities for creativity and different mixtures to come together to create something magical, but some things just don't go together.... or do they?
Right now it's still up in the air, but everything I've been reading so far on this new mixture sounds like it could go either way or end up in a roughly 50/50 split.
The new ingredient in the mixture? Olive oil... in your coffee.
You read me right.
Apparently it had been popularized in Italy (Go family!) and has now made its way to the U.S. in select Starbucks stores as they spearhead this new initiative.
So olive oil coffee seems to definitely be making headlines, and it comes in different forms from their product line to their hot and simple Oleato coffee to their cold a frothy Golden Foam (Check out their article at Starbucks.com for more info.
I did read a few reviews on what people were thinking, and so far the hot versions of the olive oil coffee seem to be doing well, but people are tending to say the cold brews like the Golden Foam don't pair well together and create an odd flavor.
There's also one called the Cortado coffee which is similar to the Oleato but blends more complex flavors together, but it seems to be pretty popular.
However everything I've read so far says the Cortado can only be found in higher end locations and can cost a pretty penny (Up to $60 for a full serving.) so good luck finding that one to try with easy access.
Once Starbucks runs their initial test results against profits, cost ratios, and so on they will either decide what to make permanent or scrap the idea altogether, although I foresee that some of them will be cut and the super popular items find their way onto our Starbucks menus forever.
If they succeed everyone else is going to follow suit and compete and hopefully offer us a better and better coffee experience.
I think I'm going to try making the Oleato at home as it sounds pretty simple with mainly just hot coffee, oat milk and olive oil.
Who knows, maybe my Italian blood will cry out with victory in join.... or maybe I'll spit it out like someone just busted into my office with some bad news and throw the mug on the ground. Only time will tell!
Happy sipping my fellow coffee lovers!
